2007-2008

People say that high school was the best time of their lives. I have found out for myself that they are right. My freshman and sophomore year were both great, but my junior year has blown them both out of the water.

When I look back on the year; football, HTV, cabinet, and basketball games go rush over my mind. It feels like yesterday that the tail gate parties were going on before the big game, or when we won against Kickapoo. HTV has been a blast because, well it’s HTV, you become a family in here… it’s going to be hard to see everyone go. Cabinet was a great experience because you understand what happens behind the scenes, I’ll also miss everyone there. Gosh I’m just going to miss all of the seniors… ah but this year over all has been such a blast!

Spring Break 08

This year I didn’t do anything special for spring break, you know basically just the usual… First we boarded a small plane to Atlanta, then got on a ten hour flight to HAWAII. When we arrived in Hawaii we stayed with a school there and we surfed all day and were on the beach all day. It was awesome. The school gave us a real lou-ouw, it was very different than what I’m used to, but it was great

When we got to our hotel we were literally on the beach all day. We saw some hot aussies, and some very mean girls (Kendra!! :)) We ate at sea food places on the beach and a really bad diner. But everything was so great! I had a blast…

See I did nothing special over spring break… HEHE

Sweet Summer

I’m a horrible HTVer because I don’t remember the blog topic. So I’m going to treat this as a journal entry and write on whatever I want (sorry Davis!).

Where I’m at right now, it’s 40 degrees. It could be 55 degrees in an hour, or it could be snowing. With Missouri (or just Springfield) weather, it’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get. Last week we had a mini-ice storm, this weekend we’re going to get up to 70. The weather here is (dare I say it) bipolar. Not to mention every day for the past 5 weeks has been muggy and rainy. The bottom of my jeans have been wet every single day due to melting snow or rain/mud puddles. I’m not trying to bore you with these weather issues we’re having in ol’ Springfield, I’m just letting the people who live in normal, STABLE, climates, how lucky they are to know if they should wear a coat or a skirt to school that day.

Since our weather has gone crazy, I’m very ready for Spring. It’s my favorite season, but this year I really can’t wait. Since this years’ winter has been dreadful, it makes spring more welcoming than usual. They say pain is there so you appreciate the happiness in your life more. In this case, this horrible winter is here, so I can appreciate Spring more. Look at me being all optimistic! :)

Spring is defiantly my favorite, but I also love Summer. We don’t have school. We can swim all the time. We can stay out/up till who knows when! There are so many plus’s of Summer, that they basically overrule all of the negative aspects of it. In fact the only one I can think of is how hot it gets. For how cold it gets in the winter, the summer matches it on the opposite end. But I’d rather be hot than cold!

Sorry I couldn’t remember the blog topic… :) :)

Disneyland

One of the bonus’s of being on HTV is the trips. Last week HTV got back from California for STN. In Cali. we stayed at THE Disneyland Hotel, not some cheap hotel 7 miles away from the park, THE hotel. This hotel had everything; in the lobby old Disney cartoons were playing, Goofy’s Kitchen, Downtown Disney, heck! even the top of the soap bottles were of Micky’s head! You couldn’t ask for a better place to be after a long day of Disney fun!

On our first day in Cali. we got park hopper passes to Disneyland and California Adventures. We decided to go to C.A. first, so we could save the Disney magic for later. C.A. was great because it had The Hollywood Hotel and really good mangos. Disneyland had different kind of rides, it was more about the characters and the rides had a thick story line. Indiana Jones and Space Mountian were both freaking AMAZING. I loved turning every corner and seeing a Disney character and seeing little kids dressed up in their favorite princess costume.

People say that Disneyworld is better than Disneyland, but they both have great advantages. Disneyworld has better rides and I think it may be bigger. But Disneyland is in California, and everyone knows California attracts actors, if they can’t get a big break, they go to Disneyland and be a princess or a Hollywood Hotel doorman. So you get to experiance everything on a higher level.

Disneyland was so much fun, even though I was only in the park for one day, since we were at THE hotel, we could watch the fireworks, and hear the music from the park, so a little magic was in us all night (don’t you love the corney lines!?)

The Worst Movie Of All Time

I am a hardcore Harry Potter fan, lets just get that out of the way. Every time they try to make a movie out of the freaking amazing books I get very curious. I know that the movie will not be anything to the book, I know I’ll walk away disappointed, and I know sadly, that my imagination on what happens in the book will be tanted. I will dread seeing the movie, but before I know it, I’m at the 12:00 A.M. showing.

So, this past summer when The Order Of The Pheonix (my FAVORITE book) was produced, I was (sadly) excited for it. MAYBE they’ll do this book justice… I get all worked up to see the movie, I’m mentally preparing myself for either brillance or for my whole world to fall into peices (no I’m not THAT obsessed, but you get the point).

So when I get into the movie theatre I’m ready to expect anything. What do you know they’re ruining my favorite book. It’s like they ran it through a shreader and attempted to peice it back together again. IT WAS ALL WRONG. They really screwed it up, everything was different and nothing was as dark as the book actually was. They just skimmed over the entire book, it makes me wonder if the director used CLIFF NOTES from the book, instead of reading the book, and understanding what it was about. BUT if the director did actually read the book, I feel very bad for him because he’s got no idea how to make a book into a movie. The longest book was the shortest movie.

Oh well, they disappointed me from the beginning, so I knew what to expect. Harry Potter and the Order of The Pheonix was the worst movie of the year, by far.

writers strike

Okay, I’m not going to lie… this writers strike is affecting me! I admit it, I’m addicted to T.V., not all T.V., just the good T.V. (i.e. Heroes, Project Runway, America’s Next Top Model, Friday Night Lights, and yes… Gossip Girl). All of the other shows could go off air, I wouldn’t care, I’d be fine!! But I live for when Heroes comes on air, for that moment in time, when Peter comes on and fights the world, or when Hiro goes back into time and searches for Adam… ah those moments are the sweet nectar to my life, the music to my ears, . Some people would consider me shallow for devoting my time so heavily into my T.V. shows, but I’ve gone past the point to where I care. It’s not like I blog about how much I love my T.V. shows… honestly, whose got time for that!?

As you can see, this writers strike is affecting my life deeply. I’m very passionate about it. I need my T.V. and reruns will NOT do. I can’t sit in front of the T.V. watching the same Project Runway. I mean seriously people, our lives progress daily… so should the lives of Claire Bennett and Nathan Patrelli (if you do not get my reference, my heart hurts for you, you do not know what you’re missing).

But I understand why the writers are doing this. They need the money. I’m all for the strike, I’m all for them not getting screwed over, after all, they make the show… but it should have ended by now! I mean come on people!! America is suffering because the people on top are being selfish (not the writers, the people above them, whoever they are…). It’s very, very sad. It hurts my heart deeply to think that this could be the last episode of Gossip Girl (by the way, it was not good this week! Gossip Girl didn’t even narrate and who cares about their Thanksgiving?). I hope by the next time I blog, there will be constant new episodes and good writing, might I add…

Did you hear about the Heroes Spin-off!!? It very well could be AMAZING!!!!

Nails, Nails, Nails

I’d like to believe that fake nails are a thing of my generation, and my generation only. In other words… they’ll go out of “style” in a couple of years, and no other generation will put them back into style. Let’s just say, they’re the big hair of the 80’s. If I were to say that there was nothing worse than fake fingernails, I’d be lying, because there is something worse than putting hard plastic on the tips of your nails… putting hard plastic on the tips of your toenails.

Last week while I was getting ready for homecoming a dear friend of mine (Valery Elliott) came over to show me her new nails. They were cute, simple just the way nails should be. When she stuck out her feet and wanted me to see her pedicure also, French Tip, a classic. “They’re fake too!!!” she said to me as I was gawking over them. “Whoa, whoa, whoa.” I said, “Fake toenails?!?!?!” Though they weren’t that noticeably fake, it was the concept that they were actually fake that got me. Valery’s not the only one whose had fake toenails, plenty of other people have them too. But some people go over the top with their artificial toenails… can you imagine having them so long that the you’ve got to buy an extra size too big? Or what if you stub your toe, does hard plastic and dried glue shatter everywhere?

When girls say “OUCH! I BROKE A NAIL!” (depending on who they are) they’re not usually over exaggerating when they say “OUCH!” it actually hurts. Something glued on your finger is getting snapped off. I’ve seen girls get their nails snapped off during volleyball practice, I can’t imagine the pain on your foot when one gets snapped off…

I just don’t think they’re very practical or useful. So my rule for my blog of the month is to outlaw fake toenails. I would go ahead a outlaw fake fingernails, but I think that that law would be vetoed. So I’ll leave my blog rule at the fake toenails.

Sushi on a Saturday Night

I’m a picky eater and every once in a while, my girlfriends and I will go out to eat. They all LOVE sushi, so we usually end up in a nice sushi restaurant. Which is fine totally fine with me, I’m good as long as I’ve got my chicken or my steak. I’ve tried sushi before and let me tell you… I DO NOT LIKE IT. This isn’t just one of those… “Oh, I’d rather get something else things,” or “That’s not what i prefer”… NO. IT’S ONE OF THOSE I CAN’T STAND THE TASTE OF ANYTHING THAT EVEN SITS NEXT TO THE SUSHI. So here I am minding my own business eating my chicken, while all my friends gawk over how good this Miami Roll tastes (like I care). Sarah goes to Lauren, “LAUREN YOU’VE GOT TO TRY THIS, IT’S SO GOOD. But you’ve got to eat it all in one bite.” (Lauren puts it in her mouth), “OH MY GOSH YOU’RE RIGHT!!! SOOOO GOOD!!” At this point I’m still VERY content with my chicken. So at the end out our meals, Mehleena has one sushi roll left, sarah says she will be glad to take it off Mehl’s hands. As the roll is getting past around the table over to Sarah, they’re eyes meet to me, “OH MY GOSH ALEX PLEASE TRY THIS ROLL!!! YOU’LL LOVE IT, IT DOESN’T TASTE LIKE SUSHI AT ALL!!!! PROMISE!!!” “No… i’m really alright… i can’t stand raw fish…” “Well that doesn’t matter, it’s half way cooked! It really doesn’t taste like sushi, just cream-cheese and rice” (all my excuses are gone!) “Well… ok..” HERE I GO!!!! I put it into my mouth and all the sudden… OH MY GOSH THIS IS DISGUSTING!!! EW WHAT IS THIS. (I must have been making faces when the taste hit me because they all started laughing at once, not just a giggle, but a hard core silent laugh.) OMG THIS IS HORRIBLE. THIS CAN’T BE THE THING THEY ALL THOUGHT WAS GOOD. EWWW!!! AND THE CREAM CHEESE!!! oh my gosh what’s happening… all the sudden… GAG!! GAG!! GAG!! I’m not just thinking GAG but i’m actually physically feeling the GAG. Oh crap oh crap!! I haven’t swallowed any of the sushi at this point… and some how more is coming up… GAG GAG GAG. AH!!!! (my friends are clutching the table, they’re laughing so hard). So I start to swallow this thing I’ve got in my mouth, when the waitor comes. Get’s my friends some water and then comes around to me…. “Would you like some more water, miss?” (IS IT NOT OBVIOUS I’M GAGING ON YOUR DISGUSTING FOOD!?!?!?!?!?!??!!?! gosh this is embarrassing I’m in a nice restaurant and I’m gaging… I’ll be lucky if only half of the customers are watching me…) But since I can’t talk, I give him a good ol’ “thumbs up”, “Miss would you like some more water?” (OH MY GOSH, (GAG) CAN HE SERIOUSLY NOT SEE MY THUMBS UP, OR TO SIMPLY GO AWAY?!” “thumbs up” finally… he leaves. GAG gag GAG gag. ok… it’s finally going down…. by this time, my friends have started to heave from laughter…) GAG GAG GAG… ah…. that horrible thing is gone from my mouth… ahh… I could use some more water…

My Ideal Story

Hi. I’m Alex. We’re assigned to do these blogs on what our “ideal story” would be. The assassination of JFK was taken, so i picked WOODSTOCK. I would love to cover that story, there are so many different angles and shots you could get. As I shoot the story, my handy dandy tripod would be closer to me than my dear cellphone, because I know that we MUST use our tripods.

When the people who went to Woodstock look back on their life (those who remember that part of there life… hahahaha) they remember that festival. The festival will be referenced to for many generations to come. It’s by far the biggest, most publicized festival/concert, whatever you want to call it. The music itself would be the obvious angle, but the drugs side of the story is a close second. I think it’s crazy how many people went to that concert, how the bands varied, and how it became such a phenomenon.

To go and do a story on that concert would be amazing, to be able to do it properly and (Davis’ opinion of) good, would be even better. I wish I knew of a documentary on it or something so I could be better educated and enlighten you on all that I would do on Woodstock, but I don’t know much more than I’ve told you, but I may get back to you later on in the year when I want something to talk about.

Hello world!
